WGA’s pay scales for New Media Writers
These rates are for “derivative” productions, meaning the web show is based on existing TV show. Residual compensation guidelines are also outlined in the document.
For original new media productions, “Initial compensation will be subject to negotiation between the Company and the individual writer.” And no residuals for productions with budgets under $25,000 per minute.
Interesting.

On my departure from EPIC FU

Revision3 is ending its distribution agreement with EPIC FU and I’ve been laid off as Producer of the show. Apparently kick-ass web shows aren’t totally immune from the economic crisis.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to make a living in new media, and I have no doubt that I will continue to do so for many years. But this is still the wild west of entertainment and no one said it was gonna be a smooth ride.

I am still undecided on how I will move forward career-wise, in terms of seeking out another new media company vs. pursuing a more mainstream route until things calm down in the space. I’d also love to start producing one of the projects I’ve developed in my spare time.

I will keep you updated about where I’m headed. Contact me if you have any questions. Thanks for the support!

On Roosevelt's assassination attempt

spytap:

On October 14th, 1912 Roosevelt was to make a speech in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before 9,000 people. Unfortunately, one of those people was Schrank. Before the speech could be delivered he fired once, hitting Roosevelt right in the chest.

What Went Wrong: Compared to everyone else on this list, Schrank was a goddamn marksman. Had he aimed a few inches to the left the bullet would have torn through Roosevelt and maybe even killed him (we emphasize “maybe”—we are talking about Teddy Roosevelt, after all).

Instead the bullet struck his breast pocket where it had to punch through Roosevelt’s one-hundred page speech and his glasses case, before lodging itself in the wall of his lung.

Among the ensuing chaos Roosevelt had two options: go to a hospital and have the wound patched up, or deliver the speech while bleeding all over the place. After opening with the line “I don’t know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot,” he gave his ninety-minute speech before conceding that maybe he should have the bullet wound checked out, you know, just in case.

Cracked.com on John Schrank’s attempt to kill Teddy Roosevelt

The full opening line was “I don’t know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot, but it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose.” Roosevelt carried the bullet in his chest until he died 7 years later. Amazing story.
